Do not feel alone: many entrepreneurs need resources to turn their business dreams into reality, even for those who wish to acquire a franchise, because the initial investment amount can reach 20 million pesos depending on the franchise. In fact, one of the factors that unbalance Mexicans who want to become independent is the little ability they have to raise the capital needed to undertake, according to the Amway Global Entrepreneurs Report, AGER for its acronym in English.

In response to those who want to invest in a franchise but do not have enough money, franchise crowdfunding emerged last January, an innovative collective funding model created by the consulting firm Feher & Feher and Play Business, the largest collective investment platform in Latin America.

The idea with this initiative is "that you can invest with a single click and become a member of your favorite franchise brands, with conservative or important amounts, receiving better returns than other instruments and helping brands grow, all with legal security ", Says Joan Segura, CEO of Play Business.

Some of the advantages of this scheme are:

  1. You do not have to be a millionaire to join the funding, because you can invest from less than 10,000 pesos (depending on the conditions of each company).

  2. You should not operate the business, since those who participate in this model will act as absent investors, that is, the branch will be in charge of the franchisor, but you will serve as the brand's natural ambassador.

  3. In this first stage, you should not cover a specific profile. Just sign up on the platform, provide your identification, RFC, proof of address and bank details to make charges and deposits. In addition, you must sign a digital contract with Play Business, which has money laundering clauses and lawful origin of the money.

  4. You have the payment of your guaranteed investment during the entire life of the brand, since in these models the franchise contract does not expire.

  5. The returns are "inheritable", that is, as long as the franchise continues to operate, you can transfer the earnings to a family member when you are no longer present.

  6. Play Business offers all the financial information you need to make the best investment decision: market value analysis, growth projection, return on investment, financial analysis, equipment. In addition, it reports to investors every certain time on the behavior and results of the investment.

"In addition, you can diversify your savings and invest in one or more franchise models, backed as Triple A models by Feher & Feher, which will make your investment safer," said Ferenz Feher, CEO of this consultancy, who explained that each vehicle Investment is tailored to the needs of brands. Franchises such as those that we present below have already been uploaded to this new model, in addition to others - such as gyms, hotels, restaurants, dessert brands, clothing arrangements, gas stations - which will soon be said of Feher and Segura. The Cervecería of the Barrio

Restaurant bar concept inspired by traditional seafood restaurants in popular markets. This company was the pioneer in financing its expansion under this collective investment model. A month after launching his first vehicle he had collected 20 million pesos, becoming the largest crowdfunding investment round in Mexico and Latin America. The resources were obtained from 1,200 investors who, from 7,500 pesos, invested to open three more branches of the brand, all in Mexico City, to add a total of 34 points of sale in Mexico and one more in the United States. Among the new partners are even managers of the branches and customers of this chain.

Although his first collective investment vehicle has already reached the investment goal (4 million pesos), Benito Hernández, managing partner of La Cervecería del Barrio, said they will open more rounds in the not too distant future. “We want to be one of the biggest restaurants in Mexico. In a couple of years we want to reach 50 units in the capital and its metropolitan area. If this scheme is favorable, we will continue to use it to expand our network of brand promoters and ambassadors. ”

7 Clean

A chain that has more than 15 dry cleaners in Mexico that operates since 2004 and has had a growth of 9% annually in recent years. It offers comprehensive and specialized services for the care of garments with environmentally friendly equipment. He opened the possibility of becoming a brand partner through this system last February for the opening of two new branches: one in Polanco, Mexico City, and another in Metepec, in the State of Mexico.

"The traditional franchisee has to operate the unit and have the full investment, but not all people have enough time or time," says Luis Miguel Ruiz Ripoll, president and CEO of the brand. "With this option, we look for passive investors who let us operate and become capitalist partners and brand ambassadors."

The company is so confident in the success of the project that it is even putting the flow of its best store to pay the partners until the new outlets are profitable. “We are taking risks along with them to guarantee their return. We don't win if they don't win, ”says the CEO.

Another advantage is that the amount invested can be divided into three monthly installments; that is, if you invest 30,000 pesos, it will be deferred in 10,000 pesos per month.

Luis Miguel said that during the Franchise Fair they will open a second round of collective funding, but also "we continue to franchise in the traditional way for those who have full resources and want to operate one of our dry cleaners."

Project 7

The Mexicans are used to investing in real estate, and that is the commitment of this company dedicated to the rental of executive, virtual offices, coworking spaces and meeting rooms, which to date has 10 operating sites and more than 300 associates (users of its spaces) throughout the country. For Eduardo Barragán, director of the company, this new model will help them to grow strategically, since their new branches will not be limited by the domicile of a franchisee but will be able to locate them in key cities in the north, south and center of the country. "That helps my differentiator, because my associates can work in any of our offices with their membership, and thanks to this scheme, we will be where they need it most."

The brand's expansion plan this year contemplates growth only through this scheme, opening four rounds of investment with four openings per block. Thus, Eduardo announced that Project 7 plans to reach Guadalajara, Monterrey, Mérida, Aguascalientes Guanajuato, San Luis Potosí, Cancun, Tijuana, Saltillo, Torreón and Chihuahua, to add 20 units at the end of 2019.

A plus of this company is that the amount collected will represent only the operating costs of each headquarters, that is, the franchise fee, royalties or advertising fund are not being included in the round.
